Hello

Having built the groundworks for my extension myself, I handed over to a bricklayer to get the external skin up to wall plate. He is now at wall plate level on one side of the pitched roof, and he has installed the wall plate.

However, he has unexpectedly not put a mortar bed under the plate, but has rather fixed the plate down and installed restraint straps. Now, the plate isn't very long (only about 2.1m on that side of the roof), and it is level... however is this likely to pose a problem? I can't see too many issues with respect to installing the trusses, but I am not sure if the BCO will have some concerns, e.g. for loading of the wall??

I'm hoping to get the roof trusses on at the weekend, so I'll need to let the bricklayer know pronto if he needs to change this!

Advice appreciated.

Thanks
Rich

Depends on the levels, maybe its a bit high that side so he is trying to be a bit skinny.

Some roofers dont like the wall plate sat on a bed anyway. So its not crumbling as they spike the roof timbers on.

If the brickwork is level then its fine.

What size is the wallplate 3x4 or 2x4 ?
