Mortar colour matching

I need to try and match the mortar colour in the attached image. I appreciate it might involve a bit of trial and error, but would anyone be able to suggest a good starting point?

Start with some light coloured sand and some cement.....
It'll bound to be a local sand so get some of that.
 
That mortar looks like it has got fine stone chips in it. So may be a sharp sand not normal building sand, and that's why it's very light.

If it's soft, it might be a lime mix.

White cement and red sand. Or a blend of plaster sand and builders sand and grey cement.

If you can put bit of the mortar in acid it should leave you with a sample of the sand.
When you finish the joints with a metal tool it brings up more of the cement and forms a more weatherproof skin. Over the years this wears away and leaves the sand more exposed so the original colour is different.
Finishing a lime based mortar with the churn brush exposes the sand.
