I’m repointing the entire gable end wall of my house, but the very top couple of feet triangle is too high for me to reach and use a grinder using any means that I’m comfortable with, and the pointing seems rock solid presumably because it’s protected by the barge soffit overhang.

I was planning on applying some kind of protection on it anyway, is there anything I can apply using eg. a roller on a pole, Thompson’s weatherseal etc any good for this?

Thomsons and similar won't last due to UV degradation. You need a better quality silane/siloxane product that has UV inhibitors and last 25 years or so. Check the product specs.

BTW, by way of protection, these will give water repellency not any other protection.

Thanks. Water repellency is better than nothing, the area is pretty much entirely sheltered by the fairly deep barge soffit overhang at the apex.
