Recently noticed the carpet in our hall is damaged in places, looks like something has been nibbling it! On further investigation the mortar underneath the door sill is crumbling so there is plenty of scope for insects to get inside but nothing bigger I’d say (the floor in the hall is concrete and that is failing just inside the door frame too). Would like to ask if anyone has any ideas what has eaten the carpet and also what material to fill the gap under the door with once it has been cleared out.
Would appreciate any comments before we get a man around to look at it.
Just to complicate things it looks like the gap under the door has a layer of damp course which you maybe able to make out on the pictures.

The nibbling might be the carpet moving over the mortar, breaking both up. Screwfix sells rapid setting repair mortars, just make sure you don’t bridge the dpc.
