I Have the same problem on the WM63 model.

How do you take off the cabinet front?

Can you obtain any manuals with more detailed drawings/wiring diagrams?

Also where is the best place to get spare parts - are there any good internet suppliers.

Whenever I mention washing machines everyone jumps up and says the Hotpoints are a brand to avoid as proved by Which.

My experience with my Mothers Hotpoint and my own is that they are pretty reliable as these things go.

I liked the motor at the top away from damage by any leaking water and easily accessible if the belt needed changing.

Do the latest models still have the motor at the top?

No Tony, they now have the motor at the bottom and are a pain in the proverbial to work on. The machine discussed here was one of the last models to use the old design and is an ideal appliance for DIYers as all jobs are quite straightforward.

To take off the front you pull off the plastic trim panel from the bottom, take out the soap drawer and remove the screws thus exposed, pull off the timer knobs, push the fascia panel to the right slightly while pushing the on/off button inwards and the fascia should lift free. Unclip the retaining wire and pull the door seal away from the front panel then remove the screws from the top and bottom edges of the panel. the panel will now pull away at the top and can be lifted out.

Just looked in the kitchen here and it has a Hotty 9926.

Its working well and was bought s/h for £50 a year ago when the tenants wanted a cheap washer/dryer in a hurry. Looks a bit dated though!

Is it worth repairing if it fails or should they get a WM440 or whatever the latest model is and have a nice new looking appliance.
