Hi

I’ve got a velux style window at the top of my stairs going into a dormer conversion. There is quite a bit of black mould around it. Most likely because the vents have been closed. So I’ve opened those up but still need to get rid of the mould and sprayed white vinegar onto it.

It looks like there is a bit of rot in there as well.

What would you do to tidy this up? I want to paint the window white so wondering how best to cover it all up. Keen on not replacing it as we are moving next year.

Picture attached.

Thanks all

We run a small 12lt dehumidifier every evening in winter for 3 ish hours in loft conversion with 3 large velux windows and now get no condensation.
Used to get loads and I used a window vac every morning because of black mould and the wood was starting to rot.
Wish I used a dehumidifier years ago.
We also run a dehumidifier downstairs for a few hours. Also dry washing with dehumidifier.

Our window wood has dried up.

I'm going to paint our velux windows in the summer as they look like yours.
Sand
2 pack wood filler
Zinsser all coat or bedec paint probably..

Dehumidifiers are awesome. Its amazing how much moisture they collect.

Yeah. We are late to the dehumidifier party.
I'll switch this off in 15mins. Under 50 is good.
When I empty it every 3 days it's hard to understand where all the water comes from.

Interesting. Downstairs I actually get pretty low humidity. Regularly in the high 30’s. I’m wondering if the window vents will be enough.

I’ve got some wet rot hardener, worth putting a bit of that over it?

I’ve got 2 pack filler and loads of zinsser bin so assume that’d be a good start point as well rather than buying all coat?

Yeah.
Wet rot hardener ect and you say.
We don't have any vents on our velux windows.
