My new cable has arrived as previous owner had folded mower arms down when not used & cable crushed.

I ordered the cable from GHS by the number on sticker on mower & it looks the same.

On the cable is a plastic threaded adjuster.
Cable now fitted & leaving adjuster alone I operate the self drive arm in the handle but mower hasn’t moved.

I continue to then adjust this until it unscrewed itself as still no mower movement.

I remove the inspection flap so I can see gearbox & when I then operate the handle I see the shaft that comes out of both sides the gearbox spin.

So now without any tools on me does that mean maybe the steel pins in the large metal cog inside the wheel have been removed ?

If not what do I need to check.
Thanks.

Be home shortly to take it apart.

Yes, the drive dogs on the end of the axle have been left out or reversed - depending on design. They are intended to freewheel - but only when pulling the machine backwards!
John :)

From memory they are there as I noticed how much bigger than my owner mower gears.

Reversed you mean swapped side to side

Sometimes the drive pegs are reversible, and causes the free wheeling effect. These are often rectangular, with one edge curved.

Ok so this is what ive done.
Removed 1 wheel at a time.
So left side i see a circlip, metal cog wheel, pulling that off i then see the peg item that has slanted sides passing through the shaft.
I turned the peg around & put it back together & operated the handle but still no drive.
I removed the wheel only & started it up & i can grab the metal cog wheel & see the shaft spinning that passes through it.
I removed the drive peg & sprayed it in carb cleaner & put it back to how it was before i turned it around.
I started it up & now i have drive, putting my boot under the wheel doesnt do anything & the wheel is still beeing driven.

So now i did the same to the other side but still no drive.
So the right side i have sprayed also with carb cleaner, swapped drive peg either way a few times.

Start the mower & lift it off the floor, left side with boot keeps driving no problem but right side with boot i can stop the wheel.
White plastic gear the metal cog drives isnt worn & looks fine.
I had this wheel off & on say 4 times now & can stop the wheel.
I think the wheel just spins due to vibraion etc but its not spinning due to beeing driven by the peg / gearbox

Ok now sorted, Ive done much better on The Krypton Factor.

Not only do you have to have the drive pegs in the correct orientation BUT also the metal gears that they lock into.
These metal gears look the same either way round & one side has a plastic bush / seal fitted.
After many tries i decided to pop out this bush / seal & turn the gear around / refit the bush / seal.

Now i have drive on both wheels.
Revs down a little & mover crawls across the lawn so now to bend that spring / rod on the carb to see if that will speed things up.

Thanks

Every day is a school day!
I’ve learnt the hard way too, and now only do one wheel maintenance at a time.....the odd reminding photo pays dividends also - especially if the job has to be put on hold for some reason.
Nice work on your behalf!
John

Cheers.

I am now nearly finished but just these 2 things to do.

Remove that strong spring on the stop / start arm as when mowing you see the lever creep & engins dies.

Need to stil get revs up & couldnt easily bend that rod.
Unable to alter cable as it locates in a slot in that clamp.
