Hello,

I want to put my tv on the wall in my bedroom but the walls seem sooo hollow, its a newish build 1996, the tv is an LCD 46 inch so its quite heavy.

What are my options please folks? :D

you need to locate the studs in the wall and screw the bracket to them using 5mm x 70mm good quality wood screws. There should be a stud every 18 inches or so.

you can find the studs by knocking lightly on the wall with your hand, you will notice the sound change when you hit something solid.

depends how many screws you can get in to the studs though really, are there plently of holes in the bracket to choose from? my 37" tv is fastened up with 6 bolts to my masonary wall

you could in thoery use plaster board fixings but it would depend which one's you used. The main problem with this though is that plaster board isn't the strongest of materials and they could easily pull through or if the plaster board is nailed to the wall and not screwed it may pull the plaster board off the wall.

like i said the best way would be to screw it directly to the studs

Wouldnt trust any plasterboard fixing to hold up that sort of weight.... As pvms has said, fix to studs, otherwise at best you may find you gain a large hole in the wall, and a broken TV on the floor, at worst a hole, a broken TV and a dead child if it was to land on them..... (It HAS happened! )
