Mounting flat screen tv on fireplace

Hi im looking to mount my flat screen tv onto my chimney breast but have the gas fire underneath will this be ok due to the heat from the fire?

My TV (LCD) says 0 - 35 degs C and I am sure most TV's give the temperature range they can work in. The old TV cathode ray tube says 5 to 40 degs C.

Fires will of course vary in how much they heat what is directly above them but I would expect you are likely outside the parameters permitted. Only way is put a thermometer there first and to check your TV's manual.

I think consensus is that the time of flatscreens mounted above fireplaces being 'cool' has now passed.

Before deciding if you want it up there, try marking out where the edges of the viewable screen will be on the wall using black gaffa-tape (easily removable without residue, you see)

Then, sit down in your usual seating positions, and see how comfortable viewing would be.

If it involve looking upwards, it's too high.

If you need to turn your head side-to-side to check what's happening over the whole screen, it's too large for the viewing distance (yes, you can finally buy a TV that is TOO large!!! )

I'm yet to see a TV mounted above a living-room fireplace that isn't too high. However, if you have a low-height mantlepiece or are sat really far away you may be fine.

And it's infinitely better than cramming it into a corner of the room and bu**ering up any chance of proper speaker placement.
