Looking at extending downstairs and considering options.

How much would it cost to move the manhole cover and downpipes (if that's possible)? We have one drain which takes water from the kitchen and bathroom and also the soil stack plus one manhole cover in the patio which I'm thinking about building over (well, not me personally!) extension would be 3m deep. Manhole cover is about 1-1.5m from current house. Obviously the upstairs toilet would still be in the same place, so where would the soil stack go?

Your first thing is to open the manhole. If it carries water from your neighbours property as well as yours it belongs to the local water authority. You should contact them for build over permission. If it just carries your waste it may be possible to move it down stream away from your extension. It would be best to leave the SV pipe where it is and box it in.

adding anther chamber isnt a big deal really or is it adding or moving a stack pipe some times its easier/better just to add anther manhole (branch off) the old one what has BC asked for or plans say we do this all the time not just for our own jobs but other builders ect.
Drainage is abit of a funny job as if the main line is a deep dig then you have to use shoring boards props ect an size of pipes manholes ect all change ect.

Id be happy to pop over an try to give you some advice if you wanted?
