Hello All,

Does anyone know the Regulations concerning the display of fire hydrant marker plaques?

Basically we are looking to repaint the house in the near future. There is a plaque (One of the yellow ones with 2 numbers and a H) on the front wall above a window. I have tried to locate the hydrant but found nothing.

Just wondering what the Regs say about moving the sign to a new location i.e. on to the fence, adjacent to the pavement.

Cheers.

put it this way.

fire near you, fire brigade turn up, look on wall (where it was las last time) not there, they cant find hydrant. whose fault is that?

its an offence to move it. there should be two numbers inside the h. one is the diameter of the hydrant the other is the distance in feet (i think) that the hydrant is from the sign, directly in line with the sign. if you think there is no longer a hydrant there or its been covered by the tarmacers, contact the fire brigade and they will check it out for you.

oh and its also an offence to paint over it or cover it as well, in short leave well alone!

Breezer, That's the only thing I could find when I searched Google :) .

The numbers on the plaque in question are a 6 above a 35??!! That means a 6mm connection that's 35 metres away. Surely that can't be right, it'd mean the hydrant is in a shop over the road and I'd imagine a 6mm hose would take a while to put out a fire  .

As I say I had a good look for the hydrant and found nothing. The tarmac on the pavement is quite new looking too so it may have been covered.

I'll speak to the local Fire Office and see if thay can shed any light on it.

Cheers, Jim

6 /35 ? its probably an imperial sign. since how would you have a 6mm water main?

6 inch pipe, 35 feet away

Give your local fire station a call. They'd probably be quite happy to give you advice.
