Is it right that MPs should have a summer break all at the same time? Why not a rota system? (If my company did that, we would come to standstill.) They are now telling us that the border controls need to be tightened BUT only when the MPs have enjoy the 80 days break. Do that stupid lot think there won't be another bombing until October?

The french anti-terrists J-L Bruguiere is right by quoting Britian has made itself a soft target.

Tony Blair admitted new laws are needed and because of holiday the new law won't take effect from spring 2006 because of his interferring Cherie demanding the human rights policy.

They couldn't careless

Won't make any difference, most MPs seldom show up anyway. Only once have I had an MP where most days I could turn on Westminster Today and see him there... Even contributing! He earned his MP money, but so very few do.

Imagine if other public servants did this... What if Hitler had just waited until July and then tried to invade England when the armed forces were on holiday?

Long summer breaks no doubt date back centuries, to allow MPs to return to their constituencies rather than spending all their time in London. That has a purpose. But seeing as it is easy to take a train from the furthest reaches of the country to London in a matter of a few hours, and these are paid for on expenses, I hardly think that it is any great effort for an MP to come and contribute a few times a week.

Why go into politics if you don't want the responsibility?

why not just give them videophones... then they can go whereever they want

Apparently the reason for the extended break is building work on the house of commons to put in safety barriers (sic).

One might have thought alternate accomodation could be found e.g. house of lords, but no.

Why do teachers take a long break at the same time?

Going back to MP holidays, how could you run parliament if Mr smith was on holiday, when Mr brown was wanting him to vote. This way at least they all know they are off although I bet they are contactable.

What's wrong with 25 days a year? That seems a pretty typical value in this country... although that would pave the way to making them work 37 hours a week!
