Mulitipoint door lock replacement problem

Hello all

I'm having a real headache with the Multipoint door lock on my UPVC external door. The Multipoint door lock has failed and I need to replace it.

However. It seems it's so old, the mechanism that needs to be replaced is now obsolete.

The locking strip states MACO but there is no serial number.

Rather than have a new door fitted I would like to try and replace the Multipoint Gearbox mechanism. Just the Gearbox if I can help it.

This is the gearbox with the strip that runs up and sown the door removed. If you want details of this strip all I can say is that it is 16mm and has x4 rollers. i can get pictures if needed. I think I only need the gearbox since that is what has failed but it may be that I need the whole kit.

I have been in touch with quite a few online specialist stockists and a couple of gearbox types have been suggested but I am unsure if they would be suitable because they are not exactly the same. I'm worried that if I spend out on the gearbox online I will only have the problem of having to send it back and I dont want that hassle if i can help it.

If anyone has any ideas please let me know. I would be very grateful for any advice.

After an extensive search and some research I ended up actually buying that very lock kit. I havnt fitted it yet. I hope it works out.
Since you have also recommended this kit I have hope.

Er! Oy my word. What an absolute nightmare. The latch needed to be the other way round for my door so I had to undo the gearbox and turn the latch around. Fine I watched a few videos on this and thought it should be a sinch. Hah! how wrong I was. Various mechanical bits and springs all pinged out and without an exploded diagram of the gearbox insides I was absolutely lost on how they all fit back together. It's taken about 5 hours to work it out with an engineer friend of mine. It seems to be back in order but cutting down the 2m strip to the size of my existing so it fits on the door is the next stage. I flippin hate this door.

By the way just so you know. All the apparent "experts" when it comes to supply and suitability of multipoint door locks did not come up with the one that you recommended, which when finally cut down and what ever should slot in nicely. I believe they do not know that this one even exists. So you have my full credit for that and you deserve a star.
 
I know this doesn't help now and I might be wrong, but I am sure there is a little slide on the side neat the latch that releases the latch and can just click back in the other way
 
When cutting the strip. Put it in the correct position in the door and mark the top and bottom. The inner part of the strip (the bit that moves when you lift the handle will need to be cut shorter as this will stick out when the handle is lifted. Alternatively you could put it in the lock position and cut it.

Yes there's one of 3 ways it could be done

1/ A screw down the centre of the latch but easy to see, enables you to remove the latch and turn round

2/ A screw in the side of the gearbox case, might only become visible when depressing the latch, again enables you to turn the latch round

3/ The secret one, grab the latch with pliers and pull outwards, turn through 180° and pop it back in
 
I didn't think the maco had the screws in the centre of the latch or side of the gearbox? All the ones I have come across so far have had a little clip on the side that you lift to release it. I'm not saying I'm right, it's just from my personal experience

I guess its about patience at the end of the day isnt it. If I had asked on here about the latch then perhaps i wouldnt have been in that mess. I actually laughed when I read that you can press a button and a swap it round. After such a long search for the part and thinking "new door", when i did get the part I wanted to get stuck in. So yea wish I had asked the question first...ill update this thread once done (hopefully it will be done). And thanks for your advice.

...worked a treat. Looks like my re-assembling the lock worked out ok (after 'the opening it up' and turning the latch round - almost ruining the lock) and cutting the strip down to the right size also went well. The Keeps on the door frame had to be moved around and for some reason the actual hole in the door where the barrel lock goes through had to be modified a bit so that it lined up properly with the gearbox. Probably because of a few slight differences in the gearbox (old vs new).

After the event, and all that!

From Sanderson Security website - 'Operation: Lift lever. Latch reversal: Loosen screws above and below latchbolt, push up small serrated button on side of case and pull out latch.'

Might help others though.
