Must a Crimp be inside a protective box

Hi,

If a crimp connection is used on 1mm lighting cable must the crimp be inside some form of protective plastic box.

That is also fine. The important thing is that there is a sheath maintained over all conductors, and whether that's achived with an enclosure or hearshrink is irrelevant. However, you have to bear in mind the intended application - I, for example, wouldn't be happy with a crimped + heatshrinked joint on a flex to a piece of portable equipment where stress/strain on the cable are likely.
