Got called here today, the meter was smoking apparently. Turns out that it they'd had the place re-wired/consumer unit change a few months ago. What was smoking was an ancient ELCB between the meter and the CU. I have serious doubts about the spark who did work here, The main earth is only about 4mm bare, it goes off behind the wall somewhere. the g/y from the new CU is 6mm tri-rated and just the fact that he's left this old ELCB in place when the tails from the meter feeding it were cloth covered VIR of about 8mm! There is an electric shower and allsorts off the CU!
He's chopped off a couple of strands off the new tails to the CU to make them fit in the ELCB terminals and murdered off the screw whilst he was at it. None of the MCB's are labled! And its not fitted straight either!
I re-tailed the cutout and meter and fitted an isolator because the customer had the spark coming later on in the day.
