I have had professional disco lights for many years as stage lighting is a small hobby of mine, and in my old house I had them up on a similar bar in my garage.

Well I had just about got fed up of them in their boxes not being used and had no room to put up my portable light stand in my bedroom and so erected this 2.3 meter long metal bar in my bedroom above my bed so I could hang them up.

The bar as shown is mild steel box section what is 50mm wide x 30mm tall x 2300mm long with a 3mm wall.

4 x 200mm M10 coach screws are used to secure the bar into the ceilings joists, with 80mm gap between the bar and the ceiling.

To obtain this gap, I used 80mm lengths of metal pipe and large washers to hide the coach screws and give me the correct distance between the ceiling and the bar.

As you can also tell I have painted the bar green to match my curtain, which I simply did by using a all in one spray primer and paint

Lastly, there are 7 x 8.5mm holes spaced out every 300mm what are used to suspend the individual lights/fixtures as well as 4 x 11mm holes for the M10 coach screws.

Nice!
Are they hooked up to any controller for synchronised lighting, or is it just a case of "plug in and let the lights do their thing"

The Geni Mojo spin Master 1 above my bedside lamp is DMX512 controllable as is my iMove 5s moving head (not shown). My other lights are simply "plug and play"

At the moment though, I have not got my 192 channel DMX controller hooked up and the Geni Mojo Spin master 1 is operating on audio/automatic mode.

Hook them up to an alarm clock &you'll have a nice surprise when it's time to get up :)

Wow geni moving mirror fixtures. Not seen one of those for a while :D

I got mine from Maplin too probably around the same time. Mine were mojo scans.

I've moved on a bit since then and have a few Martin Mac 250's and some RGBW LED battens now controlled by a fat frog desk

:D

Cool,

I have a few abstract and twister lights I used to use during gigs many years ago.
Hoping they still work as been stored in the garage for some years :D

Can I ask, is it just simply a question of cutting off the 3 prong plug and attaching a standard UK plug to make them work of normal mains?

I may infact still have the controller i used to switch them on individually so once I've finished the extension I may look at fitting them in the garage.

Reminds me of when I was a kid and made my own sound to light box. I connected up to my guitar amp and almost blew my f******g head off.

If they are mains 220-250v lights and no more than 3Kw per light, then yes. Just remember to use a suitable fuse ratting for the light/bulb wattage.

I assume they currently have 2 or 5 amp round pin plugs commonly used in the lighting industry.

This got to be the weirdest project I've seen on here or anywhere else for that matter.

Disc lights in your bedroom? I had to double check it wasn't April fools day and a wind up.

Really?; I chose a suspended bar simply because I did not have room to set up my tri-leged light stand. At least I have my own private disco to my own music in my bedroom

I bet many can't claim that experience! ;)

If you really want to see a wired project; then see this old video of mine: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZIo-XvAHr9A

Just an update to what I currently have on my lighting bar at the moment; 4 x 70W Kam LED Par cans, 1 x Acem iMove 5s Moving head, 1 x Soundlab 700w smoke machine, 1 x Geni Spinmaster 1. All being controlled with DMX 512.
