What is the minimum clearance you must have between the ground and the underside of the deck?

I am planning to put decking over a solid, but uneven existing patio, however do not want to raise the level any more than I have to. Would I be able to build the frame using 50mm by 50mm for example?

Any help/guidance gratefully received.

i don't think there is a minimum... as decking can sit on the ground. Just leave enough of a gap to get you level (and to stop the damp rising).

And i think 50mm x 50mm is not big enough for the frame... i reckon at least 50mm x 75mm ....
(btw, i'm a diy'er, not a pro)

The joists need to be sturdy enough not to bounce and buckle when you walk on them. Use 2x2 by all means, but you'll have to support them all on the concrete every foot or so. Better to use 4x2 at least (with the 4" side vertical) - that means you don't have to support them with legs quite as often. Better still, use 6x2 and you only need a few supports on each one.

Plenty of posts (no pun intended) on laying decking in these boards.
