Hi,

My 4yr old Ctd80 condensor dryer has led a hectic but healthy life with no complications up until now. The problem it has, is that it wont power up, when you switch the plug on & press the on/off button, you get nada, the blue LCD doesnt come on either, it is completely dead. Has anyone any idea of what could be wrong with it?? I think the prob may be on the PCB or with the Eprom, however, i have had the PCB out & i can see no signs of any issues with it. Please help.

Thanks in advance

I have checked the push button for the on off switch & its all good, even tested it on the board with my fluke meter for continuity, which there is. What next?

I had a hotpoint approved engineer out to the dryer 2day who hasnt a clue what is wrong with it, he threw parts at it including the lcd pcb, heater & capacitor all to no avail, the only other thing left to fit is the main brain PCB but he reckons that it would be more cost efficient to buy a new dryer rather than buy one of those & firmware it up.
Is this advice correct??

no its not correct .if u paid for the job 110.00 and it cant be fixed they should offer u a new one at cost price .if you have insurance the company pay the bill regardless of visits and cost. the ins company do not pay the full bill only part of it and its not much trust me

The guarantees up, i never extended the warranty & i dont know what insurance ur on about my friend. Any fees have all to be paid by moi, the guy hasnt charged me a bean as yet because it aint fixed. He reckons there wont be much change out of £200 for the spare + fitment & its £238 for a new dryer, hence the new dryer option. Now, anyone know where i can get the brain a lot cheaper & c/w firmware or is it simple enough to be firmwared up by myself?
