Hi. I started building my loft conversion just over a year ago. It started off as a normal dusty dark attic with 1/4 plyboard flooring, which was there before I bought the house.

I started by ripping up all the floor boards and then added new 7" x 2" sawn joists, by sitting them on the wall plates, and bolting them to the original 3" x 2" joists, at 1 metre intervals. Some may say extreme but I didn't want to scrimp on the structure.

Apart from the plastering, I done everything myself. I have friends who are registered electricians, and plumbers to sign off my work.

I haven't finished the bathroom yet, until I have saved enough cash to fit it out to a high spec, but its basically going to be a shower, sink and toilet.

The room is my (and Mrs) bedroom, but it houses all my audio/cinema equipment. It has a fully automated sound and light system controlled by my Pc using my iphone as the remote control interface.

under the text window when you make a post / reply there are 2 blue links.
the first says "Show My Images".
click this and up pops a thumbnail view of all your pictures.
just click on the picture to put it in your post..

I was going to stick them on my reply for you but there are a lot of them.. so I'll leave you to do that..

is this the loft in a bungalow?
if not then how did you get LABC to sign off without a fire door on the stairs.. ?

While the standard of finish appears good, I have some questions.

Why hang the TV before painting, and have to cover it?
Why have the TV on while it is covered?
The entrance to the loft area appears very tight. Head height appears restricted here. I believe there is a reg which governs the minimum height above a stairwell, and ceiling heights. Both would apply here.
Did you not consider removal of chimney breast? This would have solved the above problem.
The above concern re. fire protection.

DOWNLIGHTS ARRRRGH!!!!

think he wanted us to "coo" and "ahhhh!" at his lovely conversion, not poke holes in his construction methods...

Oh nice! So he comes here, puts up photos of his handywork, gets upset with the (NOT unpleasant) answers and takes off his photos!

Not like we were rude was it? I did start with "while the standard of finish appears good".

He boarded the room out, hung his tv up and got power to it, THEN plastered and painted around it!

And the ceiling over the landing area was too low. Would never have got past building regs. I assume this is why he's removed the photos because he didnt notify and was scared of getting into trouble.

No fire doors
