A good friend of mine accidentally put unleaded in his top of the range, diesel bmw. It's a company car but since it was his own fault, they won't give him any money towards the repair and insurance doesn't cover it. The BMW people are saying it could be anywhere between 600 and 3000 pounds to repair the engine. Is there anyway to flush the engine without spending so much money? Him and his wife have a newborn baby and money is a touch tight so any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers.

Did this in a van once.We just set off driving ,van smoking a bit and wouldnt go above 45 mph. Every 40 or so mile we filled up again with diesel even though it would only take about a gallon to top it up. Eventually it started running better as the diesel diluted the petrol. After about 250 mile it was back to normal and felt faster if anything. It was only an old ldv van though not a top of the range BM.
Dont go to bmw to have it fixed, try a private garage, this will save you much money straight away.

The Engine should be ok. Just drain the tank and give it a good flush. Flush all the pipes/ Pump, Change the Fuel filter, and have the Glow plugs checked. Take to a local garage. If there are no major problems price should be a round £150.

Hi mate did your mate drive the vehicle after he miss fueled it if so he needs to remove it asap because the seals ind the diesel pump will expand and then it will be loads of money,if he gets it to a garage they will be able to drain the tank from the fuel filter re fill with diesel and he might get away with it i do loads as im an aa patrol time is the problem,
so when did it happen and did he drive it when he miss fueled it,let me know, jim.

Geez, sorry skipster. He managed to get the company to pay for the repairs which weren't all that bad. He drove the car a few metres before it conked out I believe. But all is good now so thanks for the post.
