hello there, I wish to build a brick shed at the side of my house, roughly 12ftX7FTX7FT, building the walls/door/floor/ shouldnt be a problem.
however I am a bit worried about choosing which sort of roof to build.
I'm no builder so I seek advice on the advantages and disadvantages of the image below,
the 1st image i'be be using those plastic roof sheets & timer truses.
2nd img, plastic roof sheets also with wooden truses
3rd wood sheets/a frame & felt.

Thank's for any advice, suggestions... :)

(ps the shed isn't going to attached to the house, somewhat 3-4ft space between)

I'd put a pitched roof on, your 1st image, it's the best solution for wind & rain. Go for a min. 22.5 degree angle, you can then get on most roof tiles.

Your gonna be using it as a gym yeh? If i were u i'd think long term aswell - erect a decent structure & when u flog the place you will reap the rewards (you can call it an office etc) . What I mean by a decent structure is:

- If u need planning approval, get it.
- Then if you need building control approval, get it.
- Put in a properly insulated + DPM'd floor
- Go for an insulated cavity wall, doors, windows etc etc all to building regs standards.
- Put on a pitched roof, with trussed rafters, & tile it.
- Do all the work to a decent standard, use decent materials & u will not only get less headache in the future but you'll make the money back when + if u sell.

It's like anything, you get what u pay for. If u put up some 'ramshackle' hut it'll constantly **** u off over the years + if u come to sell it, the buyers will look at your little hut as an extra expense that needs to be demolished.

Sadly I was looking forward to building it, but today I heard their building a park and ride at the back of my house, which is un-acceptable.... So now I am thinking of moving house... they also cut the trees down aswell.

But thanks peca27 for that reply, some excellent advice you have given me and i will certainly use the info you provided for any future builds, cheers.

oh and what does "DPM'd" stand for? (damp proof matting?)

thanks

damp proof membrane, with a "d" on the end as in hair brained or dampproof'd.
