We moved into our 1960's house late last year and I am thinking of replacing the radiators. Having done some research, I get the impression that the most efficient rads are those with thin water passages (modern style) but my wife would like victorian style, which I assume are inefficient as they have large water passages. Could anyone advise whether I should change my radiators or my wife ?

wife.

Column rads hold a lot of water, and have a large mass of cast iron, so they take a long time to heat up (and cool down).

They are also quite heavy to carry about. Is your wife big and strong?

The new ones are more efficient by far but the old cast iron ones look so much better.

The wife is the Boss, get used to it and start saving up for some lovely old style rads

Joking aside, i have cast iron rads throughout my house but have had to fit very large ones (some rooms have two).

They do look good in the right property. No good for a new build IMHO

Thanks for the advise, I think that I'll replace with modern style rads and get rid of the old boiler (and I don't mean my Worcester).

Bisque do rads which would suit and they are light steel and can come in any colour BUT are pricey.
