On a tounge n groove deck, why would you nail or just do a tack coat of hot bitumen as opposed to a full layer of bitumen as you would on a plywood deck?

Is it so the bitumen does not get into the grooves, and room below, or somthing else

On a tounge n groove deck,
It's not recommended on T&G unless it's for a shed roof(?), Exterior plywood is better for expansion and waterproof.

Garage and is already tounge n groove, and in good con, so need to replace

You'll be better off putting plywood over the top and fix it to the joists, The T&G will expand and therefore damaged the roofing felt in time with hairline cracks
