Hello
We have bought an old house and discovered the reason why the lounge ceiling is sagging is because the joists have been nailed and bolted to newer joists, but they have buckled slightly, pushing the ceiling down. What are the options here? Ceiling down and new joists, or something less dramatic. I found a penny dated 1907 under the floorboards, so at least I have some money for the repair work . There is a chimney next to where the joists join so I believe that a fireplace was taken out and this bodged job put in.
