This site could be really brilliant. So many posters on here are knowledgeable and helpful and interesting. There's tons of really useful info and hundreds of expert folk ready to share and help each other out.

But there is a significant minority who turn up in every thread, rolling their eyes, making sarcastic comments, telling everyone they've watched too many episodes of Property Ladder, and generally behaving like rude, overbearing tw*ts.

It's a real shame, and it raises two questions....

This is a DIY site. If you don't want to talk to DIYers, and just want to talk to other expert tradesmen, then why are you here?

Why do the moderators let this constant b1tching continue? It doesn't add anything and it derails threads as other posters become embroiled in the side issue.

As a DIY enthusiast who is not knowledgeable, not helpful and I don't think all that interesting, I find this site invaluable. When I have a problem and introduce it as a new topic, I always get a solution to that problem. Now it may be, that on the way to getting the 'right answer' to my problem, some replies can be unpleasant or disconcerting. One in particular implied that 'I couldn't be that thick' - but I was!

Let them make their smart comments, ( they can be quite amusing). Just as long as you get, or give, the advice that is required, those that go off at a tangent are of little consequence.

You need to grow a thicker skin & just ignore the smart arses. Like Bolo, I’ve always got tremendous help from the forum with the, admittedly, few questions I’ve asked. As long as you ask sensible questions & keep it short, you will usually get a sensible response from someone; although with some, it's not always what they want to hear!

There are a small minority who ridicule just because they can & others on another planet who post complete idiot questions when it's quiet just to see if they can suck in the gullibly helpful; I think they see it as a sort of DIYnot initiative test! Overall though, it’s pretty good & certainly one of the best forums I use/contribute to!

I know what you mean, lindsay, but don't you also find that some of this rudeness makes for great entertainment? I rarely leave this site without a smile on my face. There are some very witty people on here as well as rude ones. If it wasn't such a great site, it would be different, but it is, and in the end if someone decides to use the rolling eyes emoticon, it's their problem, not yours.

Well I guess I can roll my eyes with the best of them. Just wish there was an ignore function so I could make the t*ssers disappear!

They have them on a lot of websites. Why not on this one?

;)

After numerous requests, an ignore function is now available.

Click on the ignore button to ignore a particular user. :)

How about directions to another forum more suited to your delicate nature?

can we have a button that inserts all the i's for you, that would be really useful at the mo

Im sure this is a very helpful site but having only joined yesterday&having the **** taken out of me because of the way i chose to write my post is'nt very encouraging.
If i wanted to discuss grammer then i would have joined a forum group more suitable for that topic!?
I came on here looking for a bit of help but ended up being made to look like an idiot.........................................................
