Hi, just wanted to express my 1/2disbelief at how much a lazy/ naive consumer can get ripped off! here's my story!

I pop down to the local computer shop (which shall remain nameless) and the sales lassy shows me the most popular pc which was costing about £499. I ask if there was a difference between the store price and the online price......£50 diff she tells me!

So i'm just about to agree to this as i'm lazy and couldn't really be bothered to shop around etc., but then last minute she tells me if I wanted the Word, Excel etc package it would cost me an extra £100 ish, then tells me insurance cover = £x amount......I see the ££££'s all adding up and I start to panic, so I say my thanks and make a cool sharp exit.

On my way home I visit my local computer orbit shop where I got all I wanted for £345! (this is good for me).

So very happy and a rare occasion where I don't get ripped off! I just find it extrodinary that there could be such a WORLD of difference in PC prices!

Can not see, how anyone can agree or disagree, without seeing the specifications of the 2 machines involved.........

are you saying you got a PC with Windows Xp or Vista and a full office package for £345 ?

Vista is £60 , even a paired down version of Office is £100 minimum which brings me to one of 3 conclusions.
1. The PC is utter crap as there is only £185 left for hardware
2. The Office package or Operating system they installed is pirated
3. It didnt come with Microsoft Office at all.

So what did you get exactly ?

And for the record I love the the Computer shop that you so cunningly disguised in your post. My business took a sharp upturn when they opened up in our town last year.

You could buy a PC for £3450 if you wanted, and without being ripped off.

Er, there's a WORLD of difference between PCs. It's a bit like saying you walked out a Rolls Royce showroom, bought a second-hand Vauxhall Viva, and thereby narrowly escaped being ripped off.

I think it was a clever play on words in order to name the offending store ;)
