Hi there,

trying to get our gas boiler replaced and have had a few quotes, however there is no consistency in the work priced for.

Currently have a Myson gas boiler, approx 10/15 years old. Rads and pipework in good condition. Separate hot water tank that we have to get up at 5am to switch on - and only get one bath out of!

Boiler is knackered and it had just about all parts replaced last winter and doesnt start at all now.

Would like a condensing combi boiler (water pressure is fine) and have been quoted for the following:

strip out existing boiler (the one thing everyone agrees on)
strip out HW tank/ CW tank
flush out rads/ replace rads/ replace rad valves
move kitchen cupboard/ dont move cupboard
upgrade incoming gas pipes/ dont upgrade

Too much conflicting advice!

I'm now thinking we would be better off with a condensing gas boiler and larger HW tank.

Please help, its getting pretty cold up north!

I had a Worcester Bosch 24Cdi and filling a bath took ages. I now have a standard gas boiler with a Megaflo cylinder which is very well insulated - it will stay hot enough for a shower for at least 3 days. Its pressurised, so you get a powerful shower and it takes about 30 seconds to fill a bath. No idea what the relative costs are though.

Rad valves are a good idea, but don't see why you'd have to change your radiators unless they were knackered. Sounds like a plumber trying to make a bit extra?
