Need advice for building a back step

Currently we have a concrete back step. But it is too tall, so steeping for the step to the ground is kind of a jump. It's not flush with the door either. I want to build a wooden step/mini patio over top the existing concrete. I'm wondering how to do this.

Any advice is appreciated. Taking out the concrete step isn't an option.
