Are these all the tools and bits I need? I had grips and normal adjustable spanner already. £36The best advice, if you really want to try and tackle this yourself would be to go onto youtube and find the relative vids, you should be able to find them all there. To explain all the possible ins and outs, pitfalls etc that you may come across whilst doing all of this would be a pretty large amount of typing.
The key things are -
Water off
Tools - adjustable spanners - monobolc tap box spanners - standard tap backnut box spanner - large pump pliers/grips
Materials - 1/2" + 3/4" fibre washers for the basin and bath tap connectors - silicone and basin mate
So, would you recommend removing the pedestal? If so, is it a case of two people? One holding the basin?I would say you will need a proper box spanner for back nuts on bath and basin looking at state off them.
I would use a bahco type adjustable on connection nuts but if tight some sort of tap spanner may be required.
See you have a basin waste as well they can be very 'interesting ' to do without removing basin and pedestal.
Sink tap just needs correct size box spanner to remove.
Get someone to hold basin & bath taps as you remove them
very easy to spin round and cause damage.
Use the adjustable spanner at an angle to undo the basin tap connectors off of the bottom of the taps, those basin wrenches are a nightmare to use properly. The large box spanner, smaller end undos the tap back nut the larger end does the bath tap nut.
The 3 box spanner do the sink tap nut.
If you're still not sure then time to get someone in to do it.
Yes, normally you wouldn't need to use a screwdriver in the box spanner as the nut will undo by gripping the box spanner tightly, you will probably have to hold the tap whilst undoing.
It is fiddly to get the adjustable spanner onto the lower nut and grip it properly at an angle but with a bit of fiddling you can do it. If all else fails then try the tap spanner but they are fiddly to use properly and get a proper grip if the nut is tight.
So, would you recommend removing the pedestal? If so, is it a case of two people? One holding the basin?
It's the basin wrench, apologies I'm used to calling them adj. tap spanners. What's a tap spanner
