Is it necessary to sharpen the metal blade of a compact lawn mower like a Black & Decker one? or does cut the grass because of the slicing action anyhow?
Mine is developing teeth as a result of hitting a number of stones.
Not quite sure what you mean by a compact one, but I think you mean a cylinder type mower.
If so you can buy a sharpener strip whcih easily fits on to the base of the mower, holding a firm piece of sand paper against where the blades normally pass. The mower is restarted with the sharpener in place and after a minute or so, should be as good as new. Reset your blades as described in your mowers manual, and off you go
I usually sharpen my blades several times a season to maintain an optimum cut.
