My neighbour is alleging that there is a crack in the party wall. I can't see anything on my side. My neighbour says that she can hear normal noises such as the tap running much more loudly than before. I have never thought this to be unusual, as when I lived there (it is now tenanted), I could hear her hair drier. She originally made the claim a couple of months ago, then said that the problem had gone away - but is now saying that the problem is back.

She has suggested that we get a surveyor in or that I contact my insurance company. I am reluctant to do either, as this will put my premium up and having spoken to a surveyor, understand that unless anything is visible, they are unlikely to find anything.

Has anyone come across anything similar?

Neighbour has the problem, so if I were you, I would politely suggest she gets it investigated and forwards you a copy of the report. If there is a problem with a party wall, unless you have done works to the party wall that could have created an issue, then it remains a joint problem...

Have you actually seen said crack?

Are they new(ish) houses or older?
If built in the last few years, the party wall may be built as a cavity wall in lightweight block, which has a tendency to crack due to shrinkage.
Or it might be a superficial crack in plasterboard?
As above, if you can't see any crack on your side, it won't be serious.

she seems to be assuming as she has done nothing it must be your fault
as others have said if you have no crack and have done nothing at all over the last few years its her problem
you need to have a conversation to understand her logic so you can point her in the right direction
