yes, and may god have mercy on your soul..

seriously, at least have some training and buy the safety gear.. special trousers and all..

even the pro's loose bits occasionally so better safe than sorry.

Are they the bargains they appear?

And yes i would get some safety gear... but is this almost negligent by Netto?

Martian,

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE make sure you have training or guidance before you use tools like this.

Better still, use the money you would have spent on the saw to pay a trained tree surgeon to do it safely for you.

hmmmmm!!! might chuck away the netto leaflet right now!!

and if i'm honest, i don't have a need for one.... might steer clear!!

cheers gents.

trust the sun to get it wrong. ANyway without bringing up that subject again, yes you can own one to use for diy without a licence. But they are a very dangerous bit of kit and even the right safety gear wont protect you if you use it in the wrong way, and it goes wrong.

I used to have a makita 9" angle grinder. It used to frigthen the life out of me at times. I gave it to a builder who was doing a couple of little jobs for a neighbour.

It's all too easy to forget the power being wielded.

yeah i have a 9" angle grinder, and my dad has a petrol stihl saw with which i cut out a new window in my house... happy with those... but a chainsaw just seems that much more nasty....?

the sun got it wrong?

ah, was this the guy who fitted a circular saw blade to an angle grinder then?

With regard to the chainsaw, I watched a programme on Discovery recently which highlighted the dangers of these tools.
Even Pro's have accidents and lose limbs. The latest models now have a device which will switch off instanly if it gets jammed, however, the only thing to jam it is a suit made from a special material, normal material has no effect and getting your leg/arm/hand in the way won't stop it either.
Give them a miss unless you are a professional tree surgeon, and if you are then you should be fully trained in their use and dangers. A cheap chainsaw/tool of any kind, is not a replacement for a lost limb/life.

We all know how dangerous tools are though. How many of us use dangerous tools on a regular basis? Hands up please !!
I know I do. ... All you have to do is follow the manufacturers instructions and use common sense. Treat tools with caution. If your unsure of the correct way to use them , just ask someone who knows how to use these tools or even seek out training to use them correctly.
Christ,,, even a hammer is a dangerous tool in the wrong hands.

How many of us have had a screwdriver slip and stab your screw-holding finger with it.

well since a chainsaw comes with a small booklet on how to use it and a chainsaw course lasts a week, which do you think is preferable?
