Hi,

I am looking at adding a door to access my garage from the rear garden. It is a new build property built in 2016. It is a single skin brick wall as the pictures show. I assume a lintel will need installed above the new door. Apart from that is there any other work required to allow this? I asked one company and they said they didn't recommend it as the weight of the door can move the brickwork.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

You appear to have some kind of concrete block pier in the corner? You could reuse some of the opening bricks to build a small pier at the other side - it's certainly something I'd consider as I've seen loads of single skin garages with loose brickwork around the openings. A steel "single skin" lintel will be fine.
