I tried to install a new light in my bathroom over the weekend. The one that was already in place was just wired via the blue and brown wires, with the earth hanging free, and the red wires going into a separate (small white plastic thing!) at one end but nothing wired at its opposite end. According to the light fitting instructions the red wires are for a "lop" switch, by this my understanding from the description was if the light was to be switched on from more than one switch. As I did not need this I have taped these red wires off, as they weren't connected to anything else.

I wired in my new light and initially it would only work when it was left hanging down from the ceiling, when I screwed it up it would stop working. After several attempts like this I gave and decided to put the old light back up. Now this light is not working or any other of the upstairs lights which are on the same trip switch. The trip switch is up (on) so I assume that the fuse has blown.

Can anyone give me any help please?!
