I'm replacing a 40-year old boiler which is situated in a room in the middle of the house. This means that the choice is limited to something that can be flued up a chimney. The best option that I've found is a Keston C36 boiler that uses ordinary 50mm plastic pipe for a flue. Does anyone have an alternative boiler, bearing in mind that it has to be flued up the chimney and that it can't be flued through a wall.

Why don't you phone Keston and ask them.

If it is allowed, warranty will not be effected. I think you are up a gum tree with flueing up a chimney.

check vokera website i think they do a boiler with a flue option going up a chimney, sorry i don't have much other info on it.

does it really have to be in the same position or is that where you want it to go?

the keston plastic flues are unreliable IMO, you will have hassle with it in the future, not to mention the fact that keston boilers are utter garbage.

dont know about the vokera plastic flue for a chimney as ive never seen it, but their metal twin flues rotted badly.

Halstead do a flexible flue to go up the chimney.

However, they price it sky high at about £500 for a three bed semi!

I am not convinced that there is no other option! Just because the old one was in a particular location does not mean the new one has to be!

I would find one for £100 !

Viessmann 200 can be flued up the chimney, but the air inlet will be inside the house, ditto with ACV and Kidd. Finished an ACV Heatmaster 35 yesterday with a chimney flue liner.

This will be more noisy than a room sealed appliance.

We normally find that there is another way of doing it.

Try and avoid fitting a Keston, unless you have been on a course and have a garage full of spares. A when I said 'noisy' earlier, I didn't mean as noisy as a Keston.

I've had quotes for the usual move it to the airing cupboard, reroute the gas supply stick the flue out of the front of the house or up through the roof. The cheapest so far is £3,000 and a lot of disruption.

At the moment it's in its own boiler room in the middle of the house so the easiest thing to do is to replace it.

Does anyone know of a site that rates boilers unemotionally? I've been told that Keston are unreliable, also that they're no more unreliable than other makes but the plastic flue is a real attraction. Halstead are absolutely unreliable, Baxi are great (apart from the one that my daughter had fitted which had to be constantly fixed during the first 3 months).

I'll be moving within 2 years, should I care?

There's a new product on the market which most be endorsed by corgi cause it's in there magazine?????. Even tho the terrier say's only boiler manufactory's product should used. It's a flexible flue liner which supposedly will fit to all condensing boilers. I'll have a look and give you the product name

I know advertising aint' really allowed but check out www.poujoulat.co.uk It's called DUALIS Flexicondens hope this helps

This product has not been passed or endorsed for use by ANY boiler manufacturer so far.

Keston should not be flued up a chimney as you are not allowed to have any flue joints inside the existing chimney.

Your right, and it will never be endorsed either cause the manufacturer ain't developed it. Point i was getting at is, as always who do you follow? Corgi who can take everything away from us( for now at least) or a manufacturer. The product is out there, people are buying it, and it's advertised in a corgi magazine for corgi installers. As a RGI your goner go with it to get over some of the asthetic and flue sitting problems we face

The majority of boiler manufacturers source their flues from just a handful of specialist flue manufacturers.

For some bizzare reason poujoulat (who obviously supply several boiler makers) continue to advertise their products despite the fact they can not be installed without contravening the regs.

The boiler manufacturers will never allow a flue manufacturer to sell directly since they make vast profits on the flue components despite them being very inexpensive items.

Keston should not be flued up a chimney as you are not allowed to have any flue joints inside the existing chimney.

You need to check Kestons instructions. It clearly shows the flue going up a chimney.

Made inspectable where necessary. muPVC comes in long, long lengths.
