Hi Guys

I'm having a bit of a headache trying to decide what to do with my CH system. I have a 5 bed house with family bathroom & ensuite. I have a 1982 Ideal Mexico struggling to cope & less than 70% efficient. I have had a company round for a quote to replace it with a combi, at a cost of £4720.01.

Now my regular plumber has come round to fix a couple of the WC's (he no longer does boiler installation work) and said that a combi may not be the best option but a Mega Flow may be better.

I've been worrying about my mains water pressure as it does not seem fantastic. I know flow rate and pressure are different. I've measured flow rate at the kitchen tap at 12 litres / minute.

I guess it's best I get my plumber back to check the pressure.

What can I do to improve it?

Are the board responsible for improving my pressure if it is poor?

Thank you.

A combi will do it but you must be aware of the limitations.

Kitchen taps aren't the best way of testing Dow rates either.

What is the pressure?

Have you space for say 2 cylinders? One for hot water the other to accumulate water under pressure?

If cash is short you can fit a DECENT combi now then retrofit a n unvented cylinder later (I hate megaflo - over priced tat).

What size is the incoming mains pipe too?

Thanks, Dan.

What do you call a decent Combi?

Basically, I like the idea of getting rid of my inefficient boiler. I like the idea of limitless hot water on tap that a combi provides, I don't like the idea that it may take a long time to fill a bath using a combi-fed system, especially if sharing.

You don't like Mega flow, what system would you fit?

Combi's in order:

Atmos/Intergas
Atag
Vaillant

System boilers in that order too.

Cylinders are tricky, as my preferred unit isn't available any more. At the moment we are using RM or OSO Super S depending on application.

OSO is pricey, RM are cheaper and much better valve than Megaflo.

If you can upgrade the supply I would only suggest an unvented.

The dynamic flow has the same problem for an unvented as a combi.

A Grundfoss home booster pump set may well be the easier solution to your flow and pressure problem.

Is that the washing machine sized bit of kit? Think I've seen one of those.
