Dear all,

I'm thinking about getting a new Combi boiler for my flat. The flat's small and only has 5 rooms (including kitchen and toilet). A friend has been recommending a Viessmann boiler, but I can't find reviews for them anywhere and am slightly wary about purchasing a boiler that might cost a packet to repair (can your local Corgi dealer repair these?).

Anyway, I've arrived at a list and I'd be grateful if anyone could weigh in with their judgements, considered or otherwise!

Potterton Gold C24 HE

Baxi Duo Tec 24 HE Combi Boiler

Viessmann Vitodens 100 WB1A 8-24kW

Worcester Greenstar 24i Junior

Thanks!

Viessmann have a very good reputation, they are starting to offer a 5 year warranty if fitted by a Vissmann agent, thats in Ireland anyway, but i am sure it would be the same over there, Gary.

Am putting in a couple of the New 100,s this week, they look like miniature 200,s.

The things I am concerned about where my customers are concerned is the five year warranty and the build quality.

There are bound to be teething problems but these should be ironed out over the life of the warrentee.

Also the weather temperature compensation that comes with the Newe 100 may be more sophisticated than the early 100, I will let you know once I have read the Manual.

Tim

PS forgot to mention that I am able to offer the full five years as I attended a one day training/familurisation day at Telford.

Ask Gas4you about the course. you may be able to contact him via his profile.

The only problems i have come across is the F4 fault which has manly been the spark generator, i like dealing with Viessmann because even if a product is out of warranty they will give me parts for free, if it looks like it could be a boiler fault and i just charge for fitting.

Are the casings on the new 100s any better.
They used to be shoddy for 'a top quality german boiler'

Who are you addressing that to Tim?

The OP is a householder not a registered gas installer.

From that list your only sensible option is the Viessmann.

Have a look at the Vaillant Eco Tec Plus 831, or the ATAG32C

So, if I'm trying to heat a smallish flat, the Viessmann's the best boiler I can buy? My main concern (apart from how much it might cost to repair - would I need a specialist Veissmann engineer?) is with efficiency and emissions. From reviews I've read, the first two shine in this department. Is that not the case?

Thank to all for replying.

I didn't notice you were quoting the 24Kw

In that case the Ecotec Plus 824 or the ATAG E22C would be your best choice.

Many engineers will service/repair Viessman, as indeed any of the boilers you mention.

the vitodens 200 is a far superior machine to the 100, but i would choose the vaillant 800 series for quality, aftersales and the fact that they are so easy to service!!

I am an approved installer for Viessmann and can offer a 5 year guarantee on fitting these boilers.

I have been fitting viessman 100 and 200's exclusively for the last 2 and a half years and have fitted over 40, you want a list of the faults?

1. Faulty ignition blocks (giving F4 faults) both gray and black units

2. Faulty PCBs (giving F4 faults)

3. Perforating expansion vessels in less than the 2 year warranty

4. Splitting elbows on aqua blocks causing floods and electrical component damage, Viessman reluctantly admitted that they are now replacing all these at the services!!!

5. Faulty diverter valves, I had 2 go down within 24 hours of fitting them!!

6. Splitting ruber hoses from heat exchanger - floods!!

7. F5 faults on fans, sticking flaps

And most worrying of all!!!

8. Condensate falling onto heatproof pad in main he, causing it to crumble, fall onto burner and crack and split the burner within a year of installation.

I have had a 135% callout for repairs on those in guarantee along with 2 other companies in my area.

Viessmann parts support is virtually non existent, their customer service is appalling, I was told after a brand new boiler failed on the diverter valve that they had none left in the country!!!!

WOW

do you still fit them?

also makes me glad that i fit heatlines with there simple straight forward design and lots of off the shelf parts

We fitted about 350 of Vitodens 100/200 in our housing stock and have experienced some of the same issues GasFreak. We eventually had to stop fitting them.

1. Faulty ignition blocks (giving F4 faults) both gray and black units

2. Faulty PCBs (giving F4 faults)

If I'm remembering correctly, we had quite a lot of issues with faulty ignition blocks which would blow the PCBs, and then had a host of problems getting replacement parts.

7. F5 faults on fans, sticking flaps

We are still having problems with this. Tenants turn off boiler whilst away. Return home to no H/HW. Bloody flap (the oddly named jemisclapper) stuck. End up replacing.

We had a particularly had time getting Viessman to admit to the injector/PCB problem and an equally hard time getting replacement parts.

!

That has got me somewhat worried! I presume you get paid for all the in-warranty callouts and repairs? What do the customers say to this.
