My wife and I are toying with the idea of getting our lean to porch removed and getting a brick build porch built.

Would this normally be built using one course of breeze block and one course of brick at the front?

There will be no heating in the porch but I would like to insulate this as best as possible.

Is it best to use insulated plasterboard then skim, or would it be best to build a small stud wall and pack with 50mm slab insulation or Kingspan panels.

Many Thanks

a 'porch' can be built to whatever degree you choose as it will be b.c. exempt. how deep are your pockets?

as it is not going to be heated then thermal insulation will be a waste of money. but, if cost is not a problem then insulating will at least keep it cool in the summer and help with noise abatement.

i do however condone the use of damp resisting elements such as a cavity wall and dpc's, dpm's etc.

so, its really down to how you value space over the other issues and cost. i personally would build a cavity wall (brick & block) with a 50mm cavity filled with dritherm insulation.

I can't see any advantage in insulating a porch.

There will be no advantage, and a waste of time, space and money

What are you hoping to achieve by insulating it? If its making it warmer, or saving heat/money then think again
