New carpet

My local carpet trader says I need some kind of underneath carpet to stop the normal carpet from wearing out so fast and for a more comfortable walking surface.

I think he is trying to con me, but I can't remember what he called it. Does anyone know what he talking about? It sounded Mexican I think.
