I want to get my stairs landing and 3 bedrooms carpeted (all the same neutral colour) but i don't really know where is the best place to start.
Does anybody have any advice as to whether Allied etc. is the way to go or an independant?

go to nicf website. goggle will find it, and look up a approved installer. master fitter being the highest grade of fitter. these are rare people to find but will charge you fare rate and website will list people in your area. These people have had to pass tests to get on here so you know you are guaranteed a top job at correct money.

I always buy carpet from CarpetRight. Go into a show room and buy it. Ask them to fit it, but tell them you have underlay and grippers already.

Then when the fitter arrives, he'll moan that there are no grippers or underlay, and sell you some cheeper than buying it in the shop.

don't you think this is un fair on the fitter? putting extra time on there days work, causing them to be late for there next jobs upsetting customer and giving shop a bad name and possible costing them there job if found supplying you goods behind employers back and what if the fitter didn't have enough underlay and gripper on there van? you face having fee charged by shop for not being able to do job in first place and then having to pay them for underlay and gripper anyway! And also through past exsperience you carpet, underlay etc ends up being thrown down as fitter trying to make time up you caused him to lose. Your carpet looks poor and wont wear as it should so who wins in the end?

i dont think he cares, only probably cares about price.

~Actually the fitters are usually more than hapy to do it, cos they get cash in hand.
