I am trying to turn a 1-way switch into a 2-way switch but the instructions on the web are based on the old colour-coding for cables. The existing cable in my 1-way switch is red and black. The new 3-core-and-earth is grey, brown, and black. Which colours do i connect together in the C, L1 and L2 terminals? Can anyone help?

RED YELLOW BLUE is BROWN BLACK GREY respectively.

RED BLACK is BROWN BLUE respectively.

That help??

It doesn't actually matter what colours you decide on for your three core and earth cable, as long as either end is the same. The old RED and BLACK obviously go in L1 and L2 either way around.

I always remember it by:

Red becomes Brown (as it was before the colour change at flex light fittings)
Yellow becomes Black (stripes on a wasp) - i know, but if it helps!
Blue becomes Grey (only one left)

I also remember "Grey and Blue into L2" for two way switching
Sad I know!
