Nice houses, built by the council and rented with secure tenancies at fixed social rents. Bit of a success story - maybe we need more of this and less of the big property investor type of buildings, with huge prices and high rents.

They look nice now, but with a few years of council neglect, they're going to look appalling.
They also remind me of some of the houses built in the newtowns around the outskirts of London. When I worked in Harlow for 9 months, I read about some of the towns history and architecture, most of the new stuff was designed by one bloke. Some award winning places there too. But now you'd not go anywhere near the area.

More about looks though - well insulated for cheap heating, more open places for kids to play - although I would not like to have to park out of sight.

Labour council, screw them, Tory voters on here prefer the contracted out mess of Northamptonshire County Council. (y)

Thanks for that

Not the whole of Harlow, just some of it.

Apologies.

I've been to quite a few new towns, went to Crawley college as a kid. They're the same. This article (https://www.theguardian.com/society/2002/aug/01/urbandesign.architecture) is a good read and as he put it; "If you put a load of houses up at the same time, they're gonna fall down at the same time."

New towns have been neglected, Harlow is no exception. There is a reason why it has a bad rep.

Apologie accepted... Problem is some of the areas using modern materials of their time and turned out to be rubbish... Two or 3 areas really need to be knocked down.

Most houses are of a good design and build. Not so desirable areas don't look good on the outside yet fantastic on the inside...

Most of all the local council not punishing those with council houses treating the property or the area with no respect..

I love my town. Unfortunate we have a few scum who bring it down.
