So what's the point of the new design where h lid is attached to the cap -- you know the ones that are a complete fiddle and faff to get them on. Someone with arthritis or some other mobility must have no chance. Another stupid EU directive I bet.

Right another stupid idea from the EU then - do they have a complete department of making up stupid rules.

You think it's a stupid EU rule, but actually, it's to cut down on the numbers of small plastic parts that end up getting washed into rivers and seas and harming wildlife.

Just met them in Italy; initially we thought was how inconvenient... Then with a little bit of thought we changed our minds to what a good idea! With the retained cap it can't be lost when out and about; we didn't find it difficult to manage, just unscrew until the top part is loose then just flick it up and the cap stays open to pour or drink from the bottle; flick it back down to reseal.

But with typical EU short sightedness they have made the problem WORSE. They dont work - they are a faff - you cannot drink straight out of the bottle - so I will use a cup/ throw away plastic - or waste water to wash said cup. And worse yet they have doubled the problem because the best way to get them to work properly is to do this. Now I have a cap that works and TWO bits of plastic.

I've not had an issue so far.

Me neither.

I think issues arise for folk poor motor function perhaps. I'm guessing these people can probably only manage with a straw in any case.
Sounds like a disability discrimination.
Also Straws are also banned.

Blame the Tories, they implemented EU law when they didn't have to. We had already left.
Nothing to do with the last government. -----
"While it’s an EU policy to get rid of them, it has had knock on effects in other countries. Companies mass produce bottles and caps so it is complicated to make different styles for different countries. As a result major drinks companies are also rolling out the new caps in non-EU countries, like the UK, even though they are not legally obliged to."

What you have to remember is the thought process (or lack of), regards the people complaining.

Think of Trump voters, banjos and poor dentistry. If you look at the rim of a moonshine jar, you'll get the drift.
