We are about to replace our bathroom including adding an electric shower, I’m being told by our electrician that the shower will need an isolation point and that this can only be done by way of a ceiling pull switch or a 40A LED wall mounted switch out side the bathroom, is this the case? Ideally we would like to put the new wall mounted switch in one of our new cupboards in the bathroom. Hope you can help.

Ceiling or wall mounted are the options; installing the switch in a cupboard is not acceptable, since it will not be visible (how is anyone supposed to know it is there?) and the cupboard will inevitably be filled with stuff, blocking access to the switch.

What's wrong with a ceiling pull cord or a switch on the wall outside the bathroom?

have you got an airing cupboard that the switch could go in?

A shower isolator needs to be easily and quickly available by a person who may be panicing, wet and naked.

Therefor a pull cord in the shower room is the optimum when it comes to safety, Smoke and maybe flames from an electric shower do tend to create a bowel shifting moment. ( loose connection may have this result )

well if airing cupboard is in bathroom as long as you know where the switch is it doesnt matter, if airing cupboard is on the landing even better, get out of that infer ;) no

Ok, thanks everyone for the advice, makes sense. Plus the wife has found a switch she's happy with now...!
