Hey all,

I have just had a new wooden handrail installed on my steps outside the house and need to paint it. I admit I’ve never painted fresh bare wood before and want to make sure I get it right so I’m not redoing it next year

From reading other posts on here, it seems to be primer, base coat, top coat. Are there specific types of each you would recommend - oil based, water based etc?

Some of the grain has lifted since it’s been in so I’ll give it another sand and will treat the knots. IMG_1622.jpegIMG_1620.jpeg

Looking for a matt anthracite colour. Photos for reference.
