New Fence Post Wobble

Hi all,

Starting to errect my first fence.

I've set some 200mm * 2400mm posts 2ft into ground with postcrete.

All have gone well except one that after it had gone off is moving in the ground - post and concrete is moving together.

The ground did feel a little softer but not too much when digging.

Short of digging this all out and chipping off two bags of postcrete is there anything I can do to stabilise?

One thing that springs to mind is to dig around the current postcrete and add more?

This is what I would do as the ground around the concrete is obviously too soft to support the post and concrete, the only other thing I can think of if the ground is really soft is digging down 18 inch or so then digging a trench to the left and right in front of the post (and lump of concrete) then concreting the whole lot together. It sounds like a lot of work to by hand but if that what it takes to get a solid fixing then that’s what it takes.

As Slawit said, dig around the Postcrete and add more. Not an easy job though.

Did you tamp the postcrete, when adding more, make sure you give it a good tamp.

dig deeper for future posts. I prefer 9 footers 3 foot deep. 3 bags of post crete.
but as explained Id dig one side out but deeper too. add a bag or two, then repeat on the other side.

Agreed, rule of thumb is 1/3 of length of post should be underground.

Another vote here for putting them in deeper. I would have those posts in nearly three feet.
