Hello - I've just had my old back-boiler serviced and condemned. The condemnation is due to the flue having large splits in several locations. Our plumber says he wont replace the flue, but we could get a specialist firm in - any idea on what this would cost. The flue goes from ground floor up to the roof ridge, so will need dropping down from the roof and connecting at the boiler.

Otherwise it is a loan to get a new A rated combi installed instead (which I'd love but can't afford as our current one is off the bottom of the rating scale ).

Thanks,

I am adl - not really after getting qoutes here, I just wondered what a ball park figure would be. I can't seem to find anyone that is a specialist in installing flues, unless they are big industrial jobs - perhaps I 'm using the wrong search terms. What is the name of the flue installation trade?

thanks,

Well by the time you add the flue (if the old one can come out), scaffolding, labour etc etc. Might be an idea to also get some quotes for a replacement boiler. It doesn;t have to be a combi, dependent upon the control package you already have you might be able to use a heat only boiler which could work out cheaper.

thanks for the replies - I've been given a couple of guestimates of about £1,000, so it looks like it would be worthwhile spending the extra and just getting a new boiler - knowing my luck we'd replace the flue, then the old boiler will totally pack in! Got qoutes for removal of the old one, intall new with new gas pipe, magnaclean, calcium remover, power flush, upstairs thermostatic rad controls and a wireless programmable thermostat for just under £2,000 which sounds very reasonable. Two other qoutes coming today, but I guess unlikely to beat this?

thanks again, Jo
