Hey I have an old Ford Cortina 74’ Mk 4, but its engine and transmission are from a 90s scorpio, the 2.0L I4 with EFI fuel system, with the 5 speed manual transmission. A bit of a Frankenstein.
The old fuel pump died along with its relay so I replaced both. I got a new Bosch fuel pump, supposedly 4.5 bar output. After installing the new pump and relay, the engine was able run. The problem is it idles very choppy, almost like an old muscle car. When trying to accelerate the car starts jerking and lurching and it feels like it’s being chocked. There’s much more smoke and gas smelling fumes from the exhaust than before.
My hunch is that the new pump is giving too much fuel pressure and the fuel to air ratio is all off.
Thing is I have no idea how to adjust the electronic fuel injection.
Any ideas?
