my father is shopping round for a new standard type up and over non powerd garage door fitted
the prices quoted range from £700 to over£3000 now obviously with the upper end you you get the haggling down to about half but £1500 to me seems rather steep

has any boady got any pointers in the redhill[gatwick] area for good or bad companys

he is having local companys everest and another couple of nationals round but is quite bemused by the choice

the main criterior is securety and not having to bend down any more than nessisery

If his main criterion is security tell him to ascertain if the door will bend if nudged by a car - a common enough way to gain entry (bend the door in the middle like a metal butterfly, then in you go)

aaahh right do you mean an accident or deliberate attack of the door!!!! :?:

Deliberate. Pal of mine spent most of this summer replacing metal up and overs on a HAT estate in Yorkshire which had been "done" this way. Reckons he'll be back again next year doing it all over again.

ok thanks for that scrit
sounds like one of those fold and lock up garage bollards may help!!!!

There are numerous security add-ons for these doors, one of the most popular being a Garage Defender. This is secured at the foot of the garage and stops the bottom opening outwards. The bollards are also widely used - either removable or telescopic, as are additional locks for the sides of the garage door that shoot bolts into the frame.

Bottom line, if someone drives at one of these doors, it's going the buckle. You can only stop the opportunists.
