We have a large old stone-built house, heating is by a thirty year old Ideal Concord 2A boiler which runs twenty-two radiators, two bathrooms (shower in each, no baths) and heats a pool in the summer.
We are pulling the house apart for other renovation work so intend to replace the entire heating/plumbing system at this time. A recommended local plumber has proposed fitting a pair of large combination boilers, one each end of the house, each powering half the radiators and a bathroom - he appears an entirely sensible chap, I've inspected examples of his work locally and it is well executed.
I had already read up on using a pair of (non-combination) boilers which seems like a good idea, but haven't come across using a pair of combis (although effectively they would be working as two systems). We want zone controls for upstairs/downstairs and a third to allow the pool heating to be separately controlled for time/temperature.
An alternative would be to install a pair of conventional boilers and an unvented system with pressurised hot water tank - we have two teenage boys, so the bathrooms are busy in the momings, we need two good showers to be able to run simultaneously.
I would be grateful for any comments/questions/suggestions before giving our man the go-ahead.
